Melissa Joan Hart says she's not interested in watching Netflix' 'Satanic' Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot
From 1996 to 2003, Melissa Joan Hart starred as the title character in ABC's hit sitcom Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, based on the Archie comics of the same name. Last year, Netflix released a "dark and intense" reimagining of the series, entitled Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina. Starring Kiernan Shipka from Mad Men, it shows Sabrina '"wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit," per Variety.
Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina has been a smash hit for Netflix, but the original Sabrina, Melissa Joan Hart, told Insider she's not interested in the watching the scary new reboot. "It's a lot more dark and Satanic and sexy than ours was so it's a very different kind of show," the 42-year-old said, while promoting her partnership with Kelley Blue Book and their list of the best family cars in 2019.
"I think it's geared toward much more millennial and younger generations," she continued. "It's not something I'm going to watch, that I'm interested in watching right now, and it's not something that my kids will watch."
In a promotional video for Netflix released int October 2018, original Sabrina cast members Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina), Nate Richert (Harvey), Caroline Rhea (Hilda) and Beth Broderick reacted to clips from the new Sabrina. Mostly, they comment on the show's scarier content, sexier scenes and improved CGI. "I got to see some of that so I got an idea of it, but I don't think it's really for me," Hart told the news outlet. "It's not really my audience. I watched 'Stranger Things' but that's about the only scary show I'll watch."
The Clarissa Explains It All star is an outspoken Christian and told Fox 411 that it's "scary" to talk about your faith sometimes (although the United States is 70.6% Christian, according to The Pew Research Center).
"These days, it's a talent to be politically correct," Hart said. "I find that as long as I don't care what other people think and I stand by my values, it doesn't matter what other people say. People are going to argue with me no matter if I say something controversial or not. ... As far as my faith, I think it is important to share that those are my values and I'm going to use them to guide me through life and I'm not going to steer away from it, it's part of who I am."
But if you're expecting Hart to make a cameo on Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina, don't hold your breath. "[Netflix] would have to ask first, but I don't know," she told Insider. "I don't know who'd I'd play. If I'm not Sabrina, who am I? She's already got her aunts. ... There's a lot of factors involved in that."
