Drake shocks fans by revealing that he wanted to start a family with Rihanna
Earlier this year, Drake finally admitted to the world that he is a father. The revelation came after months of speculation over him having a secret child with Sophie Brussaux, a former porn star, and ended up making headlines after Pusha-T spilled the beans in his song, The Story of Adinon.
The tell-tale lyrics on the track included an allusion to Drake having a "baby mother" - but Pusha wasn't all that kind about the matter. One verse of the track includes the lyrics:
"Since you name-dropped my fiancée/ Let 'em know who you chose as your Beyoncé/ Sophie knows better, ask your baby mother/ Cleaned her up for IG, but the stench is on her/ A baby's involved, it's deeper than rap/ We talkin' character, let me keep with the facts."
Ever since then, the Hotline Bling artist has been increasingly more candid about his personal life. This weekend, in fact, while appearing on LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s series, The Shop, he discussed how he was actually really excited to be a father.
But it turns out that he had originally planned to settle down with Rihanna.
The pair were supposedly dating on and off between 2010 and 2016, but - a lot of the time - their closeness seemed to be more for show than anything else. At one point, Drake did publicly allude to him wanting a family with the We Found Love artist, and said to her on stage in 2016, "You showed up two nights in a row for my city. You might have to go half on a baby."
Of course, that never happened - and Drake reminisced on the missed opportunity over the weekend.
"As life takes shape and teaches you lessons, I end up in this situation where I do not have the fairy tale, like, ‘Oh, Drake started a family with Rihanna and it is like so perfect’… it looks so good on paper," he said.
Then, to clarify his sincerity, he added: "By the way, I wanted that too at one time."
But Drake isn't too caught up over the whole thing. Instead, he's embracing fatherhood and trying to be a good role model for his son.
"From all the things I've learned from and through my father and the incredible things I've learned from my mother about patience and love, unconditional love... no matter what happens, I have unconditional love for the mother of my child because I want him to love his mother and I have to project that energy," he said.
However, even though he's happy with the life he has with his son now, you can hardly blame the guy for wanting to settle down with RiRi. In fact, if it was possible, I wouldn't hesitate to have a kid with her. Sure, she might not know I exist at the moment, but I think we could make it work (work work work work) somehow.
For now, though, the Umbrella singer seems to be enjoying her single life - and Drake is adjusting to his situation as a single father.
