Doorbell camera captures family friend being attacked by a snake

Terrifying doorbell camera footage has recorded the moment that a man was attacked by a snake measuring five feet, five inches at a front door - and it will make your skin crawl.

Visiting Rodney Copeland's home in Lawton, Oklahoma, Jerel Heywood may have been expecting a warm welcome from his friend, but he definitely was not expecting this.

The snake was allegedly wrapped around a porchlight, and when Heywood went to ring the doorbell, the reptile attacked, biting Heywood on the head and retreating, giving the man the fright of his life.

Here's the horrifying moment that the snake attacked Jerel Heywood:

"I got bit by a snake. Didn't know what kind it was," Jerel Heywood said to CNN of his first thoughts after suffering the attack. "Have to get to the hospital."

Rodney Copeland was equally as shocked, when he opened the door to see his friend clutching his face. "I was in shock," Copeland admitted, "that could've been any one of us." He and his wife took Jerel Heywood to the hospital to be treated for his injuries, but luckily, the snake was not venomous and Heywood will be just fine.

No stitches, thankfully, but they cleaned me up pretty good," Heywood confirmed. "I am on antibiotics," he added, but while the man came out of this okay, the same could not be said of the offending snake in this situation. When Heywood was attacked, Copeland's wife began to scream, which attracted the attention of their neighbour, armed with a hammer.

Knocking the snake off the porch light from where it struck, the neighbour pummelled the snake to death. Rodney Copeland said that he had never had a snake in his home before, theorising that it was taking shelter from heavy rains in the area. To avoid a similar accident in the future, Copeland says that he'll consider spraying his home with sulfuric acid.

"I hear they don't like that," he added.
